Terrifying moment unsteady man falls onto tracks trying to board moving tram

The shocking moment an unsteady man dodged death after tumbling into the path of a moving tram was captured on camera.

The footage shows the man, whose identity isn't known, attempting to board the tram as it leaves the station in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

As the tram begins to pull away the man follows it along the platform, attempting to prize open the door as it builds up speed.

Suddenly his arm gets caught by the carriage and he spins around before disappearing between the platform edge and the tram.

"Although not shown in this footage, our own CCTV footage shows that the driver stopped the tram as soon as the person fell over - the man pictured was not injured and walked away from the stop.

"We'd like to take the opportunity to remind customers about the safe use of trams. Once the doors have closed and the tram is ready to depart, customers should not attempt to board."
