Terrifying moment teen's parachute gets tangled while free-falling at 120mph

A teenager was luckily saved by a backup parachute after the first one became tangled at 10,000 ft in the air.

Kristen Blum has booked herself and her father in for a skydive in Miller, Missouri as a Father's Day gift.

But it ended up being a hair-raising experience as video shows their first parachute get tangled as they as they fell at 120mph.

Video taken by the instructor shows Kristen appearing nervous as the plane took them up over a field.

Kristen, who was equipped with a harness, then steps outside the plane as she takes a leap of faith with the instructor.

The pair are free-falling at 120mph after they jump off the plane.

Kristen holds onto her harness as her instructor films the unforgettable moment.

However, the cords get twisted when the instructor deployed the parachute and is forced to discard it and opens the safety one.

As the second parachute opened, Kristen screamed and asked the instructor: "Is that the first parachute? That one that blew up in the air?

The instructor answered: "Yeah, that was a burst one."

She then said: "I have really bad luck by the way."

The pair touched down safely as Kristen said she cried and the instructor said: "We're safe and sound. Parachute no.2 worked! What do you think?"

Kristen replied: "That was awesome! I would totally do that again."

Father Jason also enjoyed the jump as he said: "Fortunately, we all made it down safely, and I have nothing but respect for our instructors, who handled it very calmly.

"They later explained to me these cutaways happen in approximately 1 in 1,000 jumps, and typically occur a few times per year at any given jump-school."

Jason, who had watched his daughter's first jump from the plane, said: "Eventually, the right and left groupings of lines were tangled together, causing the chute to violent flap around in a clump, instead of expanding and opening.

"I saw her chute get cut away. This caused her and the instructor to drop again suddenly and begin falling faster, and I could hear her scream from my position above."
