Terrifying moment shark stalks boy, 11, under the waves during surfing competition

This is the terrifying moment a schoolboy was stalked by a shark during a surfing competition.

Onlookers sounded the alarm at Satellite Beach in Florida when the predator took an interest in Tanner Brasol, 11.

The dramatic video, which was captured on September 11, showed the moment the young surfer realised he may be in danger as he yanks his limbs out of the water.

People on the beach can be heard screaming as the boy safely paddled back to shore.

Kelly Brasol, Tanner's mum, told Click Orlando: "My heart stopped."

She said her son had encountered two sharks during the Gnarly Charly's GROM Surfing Series competition.

The beast had been attracted by a bait ball – which occurs when a small group of fish pack together.

Kelly said: “It was like a scene from a movie, almost like two submarines coming up and you see the dorsal fins and then the next thing you know it’s like (splashing noise) all over right behind Tanner; you just see the thrashing and the dorsal fins and the tails and the fish scattering and Tanner is just sitting there in the middle of it and you just see him freeze.”

Tanney, who only began surfing in May 2020, recalled the moment he came so close to the shark.

He said: "I was very scared. I was just like this is not good.

"That shark he’s not happy that I was in his bait. He thought I was competition for that bait.”

As soon as the alarm was raised, the competition was halted for 45 minutes, according to the organisers.

Tanner then bravely went back into the water to continue the competition.

Miraculously, Tanner went on to win his division.

The Florida Atlantic Coast is popular with sharks and surfers - but attacks are rare.
