Terrifying moment huge knife thrust at man during city centre brawl

This is the terrifying moment a huge knife was lunged at a man after a brawl erupted in the city centre.

The video taken outside the Arndale centre near Exchange Square in Manchester city centre appears to show two men arguing in the street. One of them is seen to pull out a reported blade and thrust it towards the other man in a slashing motion, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The man waves the weapon in the air as bystanders remonstrate with him. Police confirmed that they were alerted to the incident at around 6.15pm on Wednesday, April 19.

They said one man was armed with a large knife and the other sustained minor injuries in the fight but said no arrests had been made at this stage.

The cops said there was no threat to the wider public and the incident was a 'targeted attack.'

Multiple stationery police cars were pictured beside the tram stop in Exchange Square.

Inspector Richard Flanagan of GMP Central division said: "This happened in a busy part of Manchester city centre in broad daylight.

"People will have been walking past, or commuting on the Metrolink, and I urge anyone who might have witnessed this incident to please come forward and share any information or CCTV or mobile footage with police.

"No matter how small you think the information may be, it could prove vital to the investigation. I understand there was a large police presence in the city centre in response to this incident, but I’d like to reassure the public that this is believed to be a targeted attack, with no threat to the wider public.

"Police can be contacted on 101 quoting 2938 of 19/4/23. You can also use the Live Chat service on the GMP website. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
