Terrifying moment garden wall collapses on four children and their grandad

The terrifying moment a garden wall collapsed on four children and their grandfather was captured on CCTV.

Seven-year-old Lola Cahill took the brunt of the impact, along with her grandad Peter and both were rushed to hospital.

Peter, 54, had been helping his grandchildren retrieve a ball from a neighbouring garden in Barry, Wales, when the wall suddenly collapsed.

He and Lola were rushed to University Hospital of Wales where he had 15 stitches in his leg, Wales Online reports.

Little Lola had to undergo surgery on her hand after suffering a fracture, nerve and tissue damage on her fingers.

CCTV footage captured the moment the wall crumbles into pieces before a child manages to climb out of the rubble.

Mum Hayley Powell and other family members rushed to the front yard to find them buried under the wall.

Two men later came and helped pulling them out.

Hayley said: "It was like a disaster."

Her two-year-old daughter, Ava, and two other children - Roby, four and Lilly Cahill, two - were also hit and sustained bruises and scratches.

The family were having a party at the house for Peter's wife Catherine, 56, and their son's birthday.

Lola is still in a lot of pain from the incident and will need physiotherapy to recover.

"She went into shock at the time because they had to put her in a neck brace and a stretcher as she had a lot of pain in her chest.

"She is still shaken up but she is on the mend," said Hayley.

Housing association Newydd, who owned both properties, said they were aware of the incident.

Paul Roberts, chief executive of Newydd Housing Association said: "Our maintenance team made the area safe the same day and the area has been cordoned off from any passing pedestrians and road traffic.

"We had no previous reports of the wall being unsafe prior to this incident, the estate was inspected in May of this year where no issues were identified.

"We wish the family a speedy recovery and urge them to contact us if they have any further concerns."
