Terrifying moment dad collapsed jogging at Wollaton Park as his lips turned blue through hypothermia

A Nottingham dad-of-two who collapsed whilst jogging in a park said he is “incredibly grateful” after he was found by a trained doctor to offer potentially life-saving help.

Neil Buck, of Ringwood Crescent, Wollaton, was running through Wollaton Park on Sunday morning (October 31) when he began having a seizure after suffering from hypothermia.

Angela Taylor, who was walking through the park with her partner, Andrew, described seeing Mr Buck “laid on the grass” with “blue lips and bubbling out his mouth”.

It was not the first time it had happened to Mr Buck, who collapsed in the same park eight years ago - when he was also fortunately found by a doctor.

The couple, along with a dog walker, put a survival blanket around the 53-year-old and called an ambulance.

“He felt quite cold and he wouldn’t respond, I don’t know how long he had been laying there,” said Ms Taylor, a 36-year-old medical worker in Leicester.

“After a minute or so he woke up but he didn’t know his name, he was ever so confused."

Describing what he could remember about the incident, Mr Buck, now recovering at home after leaving hospital on Monday, said: “In the minute or so leading up to when I collapsed I started to feel a bit unwell and on the verge of collapsing.”

He then experienced a “total blackout” before waking up in an ambulance.

His wife, Jenny Buck, said she felt "as if my heart was in my mouth" when she was told of Mr Buck's collapse.

"It was awful, I was just hoping he was going to be OK. What if someone didn't rescue him? I don't think he would have been all right.

"We're really lucky that he's still here."

After a Facebook appeal by Mrs Buck to find the good Samaritans, Ms Taylor contacted the family and was able to inform doctors of Mr Buck's condition when they found him, with the hope of preventing future seizures.

However, the incident has not put off Mr Buck, who intends to pick back up his running shoes after his recovery.
