Terrifying moment 40 people stranded 180ft in the air after theme park ride stops

At least 40 people were left stranded on an amusement park ride 180ft above the ground after a technical fault.

The terrifying incident happened on Tornado Tower at a park in western India.

Video captured the dramatic rescue when firefighters were called to the fun fare in Ahmedabad district at midnight on Sunday.

Fire crews sent a 55-metre (180-ft) tall hydraulic hoist to rescue the group.

The operation lasted about 45 minutes, reported the Times of India.

Kirti Patel, whose two daughters and wife were stuck on the ride, said: "The fair organisers did not even care to call the fire brigade.

"They were reiterating that there were was some technical glitch and were calling a technician from the GMDC ground."

Nirav Shah, a resident of Maninagar, had come along with his six family members and sat on the ride the first time.

He told the reporter: "We could not figure out initially if there was a technical problem or if being stalled was part of the ride."

It's reported that the ride malfunctioned in mid-air when it was operating at its full speed.

The ride was located in Sabarmati Riverfront, a waterfront in the city.

Inspector M A Singh from Sabaramati Riverfront Police said: "We will book the manager of this fair, identified as Mitesh Soni, for negligence and will initiate further action."
