Terrifying jagged sword and gun found in stolen car by elite cops

A terrifying jagged sword and a gun were recovered after an elite police team intercepted a stolen vehicle.

Officers from GMP's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit saw a Citroen which had been stolen in a burglary in Merseyside being driven in Bolton.

It was followed - at the speed limit - from Chorley Old Road to the Johnson Fold area of the town.

A tyre-shredding stinger device was used to prevent a pursuit.

The driver then bailed out and tried to escape on foot but was brought down and arrested.

On examining the vehicle a sword with a serrated edge and handgun were found. The gun was pushed down the side of a front seat near the handbrake.

A source said: "The gun has still to be examined forensically but it could be a gas-powered BB gun which could be very dangerous. The sword is a terrifying weapon.

"Thankfully, both are now off the streets."

Officers from the force's firearms unit were dispatched to examine the weapon and make it safe.
