Terrifying first look at The Conjuring 3 has been released

While Irish film fans won't have the chance to scare themselves silly at the cinema this Halloween due to COVID-19 restrictions, there's no denying the love that The Conjuring films have on these shores.

Since being released, the cinematic universe created by James Wan includes the three Annabelle films, The Nun and its impending sequel, The Curse of La Llorona, and an upcoming movie based on The Crooked Man, last seen in The Conjuring 2.

Simply put, they're a box-office beast that has grossed more than $1.8 billion worldwide, but in The Conjuring 3 - known as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It - the franchise is changing things up because it's not going to be set in a haunted house like the previous two films.

In terms of the plot, the Warrens are back as they investigate a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil.

The synopsis states that the plot will delve into "one of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense."

The film was originally due for release this September, but the pandemic pushed its release back to next year.

However, Warner Bros. has released the first behind the scenes footage and during the segment, series creator James Wan said: "I really wanted The Conjuring 3 to get away from the whole haunted house set-up of the first two Conjuring films. It should be more on a whole different level, something that we've never explored before in the Conjuring world.

"The trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, this was an internationally-renowned case," says Vera Farmiga (Lorraine Warren) "which was the first time in the history of law in the United States that...demonic possession was used as a reason for committing manslaughter," picks up Patrick Wilson.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is the seventh film in James Wan's “Conjuring” Universe, the largest horror franchise in history and from the looks of things, horror fans are in for another terrifying treat.
