Terrifying dashcam footage shows near-lethal overtake on notorious Devon road

This footage shows the moment a Range Rover driver came within seconds of a serious crash after an ill-advised overtaking manoeuvre.

With a pick-up lorry hurtling towards it, the Range Rover just manages to tuck in and avoid a major crash

The video was captured by Wayne Clarke on the A361 North Devon Link Road around 3pm on January 7.

Wayne was travelling up the hill with the lorry coming towards him on the other side of the road, Devon Live reports.

At the last moment, the Range Rover flew past him on the right and quickly veered back into the left hand lane.

Wayne was travelling eastbound on the road at Two Gates Cross near Rackenford when it happened.

It left him so shaken he had to pull over to calm himself down.

'Ridiculous'

He said: "I was doing 50mph and the lorry coming towards me is probably doing 50mph as well.

"That is stupid driving, absolutely ridiculous and reckless.

"I had to pull over straight afterwards. I thought, 'He's dead.' I was really shaken by it."

The road has long been considered dangerous due to the number of serious and fatal crashes that have happened on it.

Almost 30 people have been killed on the road since 2000, but £93 million has been earmarked for safety work set to start in November.
