Violent prisoner on the run from jail 'spotted in Liverpool city centre' in early hours

A violent prisoner who is currently on the run from jail may have been sighted in Liverpool city centre.

Members of the public have been urged to contact police straight away if they spot Marc Da-Silva who absconded from prison on Monday.

Police officers say the 33-year-old, who has ties with Liverpool, was convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in 2010.

But he is now on the run from HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire and may have been spotted in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Thursday.

Derbyshire Police confirmed they had received a report of a man matching Da-Silva's description and repeated their plea for anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact police.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: "I can confirm that we have had a report of a man matching the description of Da-Silva in Liverpool city centre at around 2am today passed to the force by colleagues in Merseyside.

"We would ask anyone who may have any information about his current whereabouts to contact police immediately."

The wanted man is a known violent prisoner and police have warned people not to approach him but to contact them straight away.

He is described as white, around 5ft 6in, of medium build and with brown hair.

In a statement shared earlier this week, a Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "We're appealing to trace 33-year-old Marc Da-Silva, who absconded from HMP Sudbury on Monday, March 8.

"Da-Silva, who has links to the Manchester, Lancashire and Liverpool areas, is white, around 5ft 6in, of medium build and with brown hair.

"If you have seen him or know of his whereabouts, please do not approach him, instead, contact us immediately."

Anyone who spots him is asked to contact Derbyshire Police, quoting incident 1228 of March 8.

This can be done in a number of ways:

- Sending a private message to the Derbyshire Constabulary Facebook page

- Sending a direct message to the contact centre on Twitter at @DerPolContact

- Completing the online contact form on the Derbyshire Constabulary website at http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/Contact-Us

- Phoning the police on the non-emergency 101 number
