Terrified teenager barricaded herself in, Perth Sheriff Court hears

A Perth teenager barricaded herself in her bedroom with a single bed pushed against the door after her ex-partner “saw red” and started punching the walls of her flat.

The 17-year-old called the police and that led to her former boyfriend, who is the same age, being arrested.

He later admitted to police: “I was going absolutely mental.”

The accused was given a chance to get back on the straight and narrow when he was ordered to take part in the Right Track scheme, designed to help wayward youngsters, at Perth Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on September 29, 2019, at a house in Canal Street, he repeatedly punched walls and acted aggressively towards his former girlfriend.

The pair can’t be named because of their ages.

The court heard they had been in a relationship but that had ended in August, 2019.

He arrived at her home for a pre-arranged visit at 4.30pm but as they sat in the living room he later started to “become upset.”

Depute fiscal Mairi Graham said: “He began shouting at her and she asked him what was wrong.”

That prompted him to go outside into the close and she started to lock the door as he had “frightened her.”

But he returned to the flat and began shouting and swearing and punching the walls.

She then ran into the bedroom and barricaded the door, added the fiscal.

The accused, who represented himself, said he accepted responsibility for what he had done and admitted he had “issues” with his temper.

“As far as I’m aware, the relationship is over,” he said.

Ordering a review of the accused’s progress on Right Track for January 29 next year, Sheriff Keith O’Mahony told him: “It seems you saw red and displayed a real temper that night.”
