Terrified Scots mum fears family are being racially targeted after thugs repeatedly attack home

A terrified mum-of-two has told how she fears her family are being targeted by racists on a Scots street after their door was booted by youths.

Lyra Quinn, 27, said her young children 'cried hysterically' during the latest attack which was captured on CCTV outside the family's Edinburgh home on Wednesday night.

The video shows a youth approach the door and kick it hard several times before fleeing.

Now Lyra has hit out and said her family, who are Asian, have received lots of low level abuse since they moved to Easter Drylaw Bank in December, 2019.

She said that her two-year-old and three-month-old children were suffering the most.

Lyra said: "We think we are being targeted because of our race. It has been happening since we moved in and there are multiple incidents indicating that this could be a hate crime.

"There are many youths wandering on the street at night and sometimes shouting for no reason.

"My neighbours on the street don't get treatments like this, normally it's just my house. That's why I was suggested that this might be a hate crime instead of just antisocial behaviour.

"My two year old is pretty traumatised by the incident and it's really hard for me to explain to him that this happened because of our skin colour.

"I was very depressed that this is happening to us while I'm already busy with two young kids.

"He cried hysterically for hours and refused to go near our front door. He doesn't want to sleep alone and he doesn't want me to go near our front door either or he'll just sob nonstop

"Because of how loud the noise was, and he was in bed ready to go to sleep when it happened. So now he just so scared of our front door now, even a knock would make him jump."

She added that the attacks usually came when her husband Alan wasn't home and they had a window smashed before and often had balls kicked towards their home.

Lyra added: "These incidents usually happen when my husband is not at home as they can see the car is not around.

"They kind of know that I'm alone with two young kids. And this is one of the factors I'm being targeted too."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers received a call from a property on Easter Drylaw Bank around 7.50pm on Wednesday 17 February 2021 complaining about anti-social behaviour.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
