Shocked residents have told how they heard gun shots during a disturbance in an East Kilbride garden yesterday.
The terrifying ordeal saw armed police swoop to the scene on Elphinstone Crescent after an argument over bins allegedly turned violent.
A 57-year-old man was arrested and taken away by armed police. It is believed he has been charged with firearm offences.
The incident happened around 4.30pm on Thursday (May 20), with cops telling Lanarkshire Live there no injuries were reported.
Shocked neighbours were ordered to stay in their homes as the drama unfolded, with pictures showing armed officers bearing guns and shields in the communal garden in The Murray.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told us: “We received a report of a man in possession of a firearm in the Elphinstone Crescent area of East Kilbride around 4.30pm on Thursday.
“Officers, including specialist firearms officers, attended and a 57-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
“No one was injured and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

One eyewitness alleged that the accused "did have a gun and took a few shots at a neighbour".
He told Lanarkshire Live: "There was an argument over rubbish in the garden.
"It turns out it was a gas gun. But still doesn’t make it any better. Nobody was hurt - that's the main thing."

The source told how armed responders dealt with the situation swiftly after he saw armed police vehicles speed past his window.
He added: "We went out and they were out in seconds fully kitted up guns in hand. "

And our source told us how police had returned to the scene on Friday, "combing the area," and adding that they "are definitely looking for something to do with the incident yesterday".
He added: "Three vans appeared and multiple police came out of them and are combing the area.
"The flats are still taped off and there a large police presence in the area."
