Terrified mum's car torched outside home amidst fears violent ex ordered attack

A Scots mum has been left terrified after her car was petrol bombed amidst fears the attack was ordered by her violent ex from behind bars.

The woman, who we cannot name for safety reasons, was sleeping with her daughter at their home in Wallace Avenue in Elderslie last week when shocked neighbours began banging on her door in the early hours of the morning as the car blaze raged outside.

Images show the black Volkswagen Golf engulfed in flames outside the family home and more pictures from the aftermath of the attack show the burnt out shell of the motor.

A source close to the family told the Record it is believed the attack was ordered by her ex-boyfriend, who has recently been locked up following domestic abuse charges.

They said: "Her ex-partner had been making threats from the jail to blow up her car, so when this happened we knew straight away that he was behind it.

"The worry is that we know it's not him who physically carried the attack out - he's obviously sent somebody. We don't know who these people are, or what they are capable of."

The source said the worried mum, who woke up to the frantic calls of her neighbours, has barley eaten or slept since the traumatic incident because she is worried about another attack.

They added: "She is terrified. This happened right outside her gate, just metres from the room where her innocent little baby sleeps.

"It was so scary for her, to see the car up in flames like that and it's petrifying to think about what would have happened if the flames had spread to the house.

"Now she's worried about another attack and she is sitting up at night, watching from the window, while her daughter sleeps."

Police have launched a probe after the incident happened at 12.55am on Monday, February 21.

Officers say the fire is being treated as wilful and their enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 0.55 am on Monday, February 21, to a report of a car on fire in the Wallace Avenue area of Elderslie, Johnstone.

"The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
