'Terrified' fox stuck in car wheel cut free by firefighters

Lucky escape: The fox trapped in the wheel (Picture: RSPCA)

A fox was cut free by firefighters after getting his head stuck inside a car wheel kept in a garden in Croydon.

Rescuers from the RSPCA called the London Fire Brigade after failing to free the fox by applying grease to his neck.

RSPCA officer Kirstie Gillard said: “This poor fox was really struggling and was terrified, so I knew we had to act quickly.

"His neck had swollen from where he’d been desperately tugging his head, so there was no way he was going to pull himself free.”

After fire officers cut the wheel to free the fox Ms Gillard was able to check the animal for injuries and release him.
