Terrified family find 5ft-long hissing cobra behind water tank in their bathroom

A family was left terrified after finding a hissing cobra in their home while cleaning the bathroom.

Surapon Pongpa, 36, found the venomous snake hiding behind a water tank on November 17.

The shocked man from the province of Saraburi in Thailand called the local snake wrangler and waited outside his home until the specialists arrived.

He guided the team to the toilet where the deadly snake curled behind the plastic water tank.

As the team approached the 5ft-long creature, it slithered through a tiny gap, attempting to escape and even spitting its venom at the specialist.

The team managed to catch the reptile within 10 minutes, using a snake hook to place it into a sack and carrying it out of the house.

The terrifying serpent was later freed to the wild.

Surapon said: "I was terrified to discover a cobra spreading its hood at me.

"I'm glad I was the first to find the snake as it could have hurt my son."

Last year, a pensioner was left shaken after finding a king cobra lurking behind his washing machine.

Sakorn Sayan, 60, first became aware of the snake while taking a bath as he heard a noise reminiscent of a water leak from behind the machine at his home in Trang, southern Thailand.

Glancing at the device located in his bathroom, he immediately saw the snake's tail poking out from beneath the machine.

Terrified Mr Sayan said he leapt out of the bath, grabbed a towel and ran out of the house to call for help.

Cobras are large, venomous snakes that hiss and spit - and have the ability to raise the upper part of their bodies. Their bites can be fatal, especially if left untreated.

Thailand is home to three species of cobras and the King Cobra which is considered to be a separate genus.

Last year, a British dad almost died when he was bitten by a King Cobra in India.

Ian Jones, 50, from the Isle of Wight, passed in and out of a coma and was given anti-venom, oxygen and CPR in order to survive.

Doctors told him he was incredibly lucky to survive the double bite from the venomous reptile - which has enough venom in one bite to kill 20 men.

The dad-of-two suffered paralysis and blindness following the incident in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, although his family hoped his condition would improve over time.

Tragically, earlier this year his brother Mark revealed his condition deteriorated and he is now unlikely to regain the use of his legs.
