Terrified dog found shaking and confused after being tied up and abandoned in public park

A terrified dog was discovered shaking and neglected after being tied up and abandoned in a public park.

Staffordshire bull terrier Rocky was suffering from a chronic skin condition when police found him in scared and confused in Bothwell Park.

Animal welfare chiefs revealed the pet's microchip led them to a previous owner in England, but so far no one has any idea how he ended up in Hamilton on Saturday.

The frightened dog is being cared for by the Scottish SPCA (SSPCA)

Now they've appealed to the public to help find the person responsible for leaving Rocky to fend for himself.

The Scottish SPCA's Dawn-Vale Juma explained: "We immediately responded and found him tied to a bench. He was shaking and clearly in distress.

"We took him to the vet where they found he had a chronic skin complaint.

"From his microchip, we've been able to find out his name is Rocky and that he is five years old.

"The address on the chip is registered to an address in England. We've spoken to the previous owner who has been very cooperative.

"We have no idea how long he had been left tied up in the park. Rocky is a gorgeous boy and is very friendly.

"We are appealing to the public to help us find out more information."

Anyone with any information on Rocky and what happened to him should contact the SSPCA helpline on 03000 999 999.
