COLUMBIA, Mo. _ Terrence Phillips is no longer on the Missouri men's basketball team, an athletic department employee confirmed Tuesday.
Phillips had been indefinitely suspended from the team since January and is under Title IX investigation by the university following complaints from at least four women, some of whom have made reports of harassment, physical abuse or the filming of a sexual encounter without consent, multiple sources told The Kansas City Star.
Phillips previously told The Star he was cooperating with the investigation.
"There are two sides to every story," Phillips said. "Some people really want to say 'Me too' because apparently it's the cool thing to do. I have a side. I am cooperating with Mizzou like I was instructed. Unfortunately I can't say a lot, but at the end of the investigation, I intend to be cleared from the accusations. People who know me know this isn't me."
Although Phillips had struggled as Missouri's third-string point guard under first-year coach Cuonzo Martin, Phillips averaged the second-most minutes on the team during each of his first two seasons at Mizzou.
Phillips' last game in a Missouri uniform was Jan. 24, a loss to Auburn. The 5-foot-11 point guard only played nine minutes.
He did not participate in any team activities, including practices, while he was indefinitely suspended, but Martin said he was keeping in contact with Phillips because he is "somebody's son. It is my job to make sure he's OK."
The departure of Phillips leaves Missouri with nine available players, which the Tigers have already been playing with since his suspension. Missouri is 5-1 without Phillips.
Throughout his suspension, Phillips was very active on Twitter, posting "RANK US!" after Mizzou beat Kentucky and sending a supportive message to freshman center Jeremiah Tilmon during the Texas A&M game.
Missouri already added a point guard in its 2018 recruiting class, Chicago native Xavier Pinson, and now has two scholarships open with Phillips' departure.
