A powerful 8.3 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Chile, causing multiple deaths and injuries, destruction of buildings and the evacuation of a million people.
The power of the earthquake was such that it forced a tsunami watch alert across the Pacific Ocean, and could be felt across swathes of South America.
