Terrell Suggs: ‘It’s not shocking’ to see Tom Brady playing into 40s

Tom Brady will be playing football at 42 years old in 2019. Terrell Suggs won’t be particularly impressed.

During an appearance on Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed,” Suggs discussed why Brady’s longevity isn’t all that impressive.

“Well, the way the game’s played now, the way the rules changed, you know I’ll probably be able to sneak it out until I’m 40,” Suggs told the show’s hosts Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe on Wednesday. “It’s not the same game from when I came in, and when Shannon played. … It’s almost two-hand touch now. But hey, we’ll play nice, we’ll play long, so it’s not shocking at all. The rules ain’t the same. The game isn’t the same. They have more protection than anybody — quarterbacks in this league — so it’s not very shocking at all.”

Suggs was asked if he’s gained any respect for Brady.

“He’s got as many [championship rings] as Mike [Michael Jordan]. Six. What can I say to that?” Suggs asked rhetorically.

Suggs has never beaten Brady, with an 0-6 record against the New England Patriots. And it’s clear that Suggs isn’t Brady’s biggest fan — he went way out of his way to not even mention Brady before a matchup between the Ravens and Patriots in 2016. Suggs should see Brady less often now that he’s with the Arizona Cardinals, where Suggs signed this offseason. Perhaps distance will thaw their icy relationship.
