Terrell Owens to announce 49ers’ Round 3 pick in 2019 draft

The 49ers will have a pair of former players announce picks in the second and third round for them at this year’s draft. The headliner will be Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens. He’ll be preceded by former 49ers fullback Earl Cooper.

Owens was a third-round pick of the 49ers in 1996 out of Tennessee-Chattanooga. San Francisco made him the No. 89 overall selection. They’re slated to pick 67th this year.

The eccentric wide receiver posted 592 receptions for 8,572 yards and 81 touchdowns during his eight seasons in red and gold. He played 15 years with five different clubs and racked up 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns on 1,078 receptions. His numbers earned him a Hall of Fame nod as part of the 2018 class. The 49ers will induct him into the team Hall of Fame in a ceremony during a home game this season.

Cooper will be on stage to announce San Francisco’s Round 2 selection. It’s slated to be the fourth pick in the round – 36th overall. He played six years for the 49ers after they made him the No. 13 overall pick in the 1980 draft. Cooper split time between fullback and tight end. He rushed for 1,152 on 298 carries with six touchdowns. He also caught 13 passes for 1,908 yards and 12 touchdowns, and was a two-time Super Bowl champion.
