Terrance Ferguson missed preseason finale after being involved in car accident

Terrance Ferguson missed Oklahoma City’s final preseason game, but his absence wasn’t due to a coach’s decision or a need to get rest.

The team announced that Ferguson was involved in a car accident on the way to Chesapeake Energy Arena Wednesday.

Erik Horne of The Oklahoman tweeted about the incident prior to the Thunder’s tipoff against Memphis.

While Horne reported that Ferguson walked into the locker room and was “OK”, Maddie Lee, also of The Oklahoman, noted that 21-year-old looked a bit “shaken up”.

Billy Donovan discussed Ferguson’s status after the game, saying that he didn’t think there was “anything major going on” but that the Thunder were going to “see how he feels”.

“He said he’s fine. Maybe after the adrenaline wears off, we’ll see how he feels, but I don’t think there’s anything major going on that I’m worried about, at least that’s been told to me. I think it was probably a little bit of a frightening and unnerving situation, so to speak, but I think he’s doing well right now, and I’ve not been told anything of any kind of lasting implications or ramifications from the accident.”

Ferguson had played in the Thunder’s first three preseason games, earning a spot in the starting lineup against the New Zealand Breakers on Oct. 8.

T-Ferg’s best game came in the preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks, where he came off the bench to score 12 points in 19 minutes.

For the preseason, Ferguson averaged 5 points per game. He shot 38.4% from the field, hitting on 5-of-13 attempts and was 3-of-7 from three-point range.

Ferguson will have some time to rest before Oklahoma City starts the regular season. The Thunder head on the road to open their 2019-20 schedule on Oct. 23 at the Utah Jazz.
