Terminator: Dark Fate photos show Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton comeback

He said he'd be back.

The next instalment of the Terminator franchise is on its way, and it is a direct sequel to the first two films from director James Cameron , ignoring all of the following films in the series.

Terminator 6 title 'revealed' for Linda Hamilton return as Sarah Connor will see Arnie back as his classic robot killing machine, while Linda Hamilton plays her iconic role of Sarah Connor in the new blockbuster.

In addition to the returning Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hamilton, Dark Fate will also star Blade Runner 2049 actress Mackenzie Davis as soldier-assassin Grace, Gabriel Luna as a Terminator, Natalia Reyes as human Dani Ramos and Diego Boneta as Miguel Ramos.

These characters are shown off in the newly released official images.

Finally, the role of John Connor will be portrayed by Jude Collie, who will have the likeness of original actor Edward Furlong added to his face with computer imaging.

Directed by Deadpool helmer Tim Miller, Cameron previously confirmed to Yahoo! that while he let the director have free reign, he did want to be involved as a producer - but on some conditions.

"I said, ‘I can’t be involved in this film at all if Arnold [Schwarzenegger] is not in it."

Cameron also revealed some tidbits about his ex-wife Hamilton's return as the iconic heroine.

"Fans are going to want to see her again, and they’re going to want to see the real Sarah Connor and what time and dealing with these tragic futures has done to her.

"It’s a very female-centric film, which I’m glad Tim embraced those themes."
