Terminally ill mum renews wedding vows and enjoys 'last Christmas' with family

A terminally ill mum renewed her wedding vows and enjoyed one 'last Christmas' with her family, two months before the actual celebration.

Helen Robinson, who has been given weeks to live, donned a white dress for her impromptu ceremony in Clatterbridge, Wirral, where she is receiving end-of-life care.

The 46-year-old's husband Stephen said he was 'bowled over' when he saw the 'love of his life' in her wedding dress, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The mum, who has lung cancer, also arranged to have an early Christmas with her children - and watched with joy as they unwrapped their presents in front of her.

Pictures of the two touching moments have been published after Stephen set up a heartbreaking online fundraising campaign to raise money to pay for his wife's funeral.

He also asked for donations to get their three youngest children  - Ellie, 13, Sophie, 10, and Jessica eight - some early Christmas presents.

On the page Stephen wrote: "My amazing wife Helen beat breast cancer last year then recently it came back in her lungs.

"We have been told it’s terminal and she may only live until Christmas.

"I’ve cried many times, as we have been together since we were young teenagers, she is the love of my life and I just don’t know what I’m going to do.

"We have seven kids, four are grown up, but we have little girls aged seven, 10 and 13 - it’s going to be devastating for them and I really don’t know what to do.

"I’m trying to raise some funds to help the kids to have a special Christmas with their mum one last time and trying to raise funds to cover her funeral.

"Any amount would be a help - please help."

So far more than £16,000 has been raised on the page, smashing the initial £2,000 target.

Complete strangers offered up huge amounts, with one person handing over £5,000 and another giving £2,000.

Today, husband Stephen, from Woodchurch in Wirral , said his wife had been given a much needed lift, after seeing the generosity of people.

He told the ECHO: "This has all given her a lift.

"I'm getting the old Helen back, as she's able to stay awake and isn't in any pain.

"It made her really happy, and it proved that there are a lot of good people out there."

A party to celebrate Helen's life will be held at Tranmere Rovers Prenton Park stadium on November 1.

Signed Liverpool shirts from ex-Reds boss Rafa Benitez, former captain Steven Gerrard and a Alisson goalkeeper top will be auctioned off in a raffle.

Anyone who knows Helen is invited to attend.

Stephen, who remains by his wife's beside, said: "I don't want to get a phone call out the blue, I want to be there for her until the end, to hold her hand when she finally goes."
