Terminally-ill girl, 7, drives train in 'wish come true' at Central Station

A terminally-ill Crookston girl got to drive a train in a 'dream come true' at Glasgow Central.

Seven-year-old Sophia Walker, who has a brain tumour, was given the VIP treatment this week in a fun-filled day out at the train station.

Kids charity Les Hoey MBE Dream Makers Foundation called up Scotrail to make the special trip happen – and Sophia's "infectious" excitement brightened up the staff's day too.

The brave girl saw her name in lights up on the travel board, before getting a ride on the station buggy and making an announcement over the tannoy.

After getting behind the wheel, she was taken under the station to see the old tracks and the murals before being treated to lunch, and gifted a train driver's key and whistle.

Les Hoey MBE Dream Makers Foundation said: "Sophia was so excited and had so much fun and her huge smile was infectious and had everyone laughing and smiling with her."

The  charity spokesman said: “We are not accepting new wish requests at this time because of Covid but this one was time sensitive.

"Team DreamMaker pulled out all the stops to make this happen for Sophia and to make memories for her."
