Nov. 18--Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman's conservative approach Sunday at the end of the first half against the Minnesota Vikings was a topic of discussion Monday.
With over a minute to go in the half and with a timeout left, the Bears appeared undecided about whether they wanted to try to score again or run out the clock.
With 1:05 left from their own 26, consecutive running plays by Matt Forte netted seven and 15 yards to the Bears' 48. The Bears, leading 14-10, then called their final timeout with 15 seconds left before Jay Cutler threw a deep pass intended for Alshon Jeffery that was intercepted by Xavier Rhodes.
Trestman admitted Monday that he could have managed the clock better during that sequence.
"I think everyone is going to agree with that," Cutler said Monday on the "Waddle Silvy Show" on WMVP-AM (1000). "We went into (that drive) saying we were going to sit on it, which was (the coaches') call. That was the message we got: 'We're going to run it, run it and we're going to sit on it.' We've got the ball (receiving the kickoff) coming out of the half. And then it just went downhill from there."
Cutler said he intends to have more conversations with Trestman regarding offensive strategies.
The Bears, who host Tampa Bay on Sunday, still managed to win 21-13 for their first home victory of the season.
Scoring more points should be the point
