Tennis players in Glynneath 'fed up' of picking up dog mess from courts

Residents in Glynneath are getting fed up of having to scoop up dog mess from the town’s tennis courts, calling for action to be taken on those people not clearing up after their dogs.

Jon Sedgemore, who is a coach of Glynneath Junior Tennis Club, said both he and other local residents were having to continually remove dog mess before people could play on the courts.

He said: “We are fed up of cleaning up dog mess. It’s happened three times in the last week alone.

“On the gates of the courts there are signs saying ‘no dogs allowed’.

“Can the individuals take some responsibility for their dogs and stop this -adults and children don’t want dog mess on the court when playing tennis.”

Glynneath Town Council which owns the four tennis courts and Welfare Park said it was looking into the problem.

Town mayor Simon Knoyle said: “The council understands the seriousness of the situation and is currently investigating.

“Dog owners have a responsibility to clean up after their dogs and to ensure that their dogs do not enter areas where they are not permitted to.

“The council provides free dog bags from the community centre and park attendants to assist with this.

“The council will continue to work with partners to take action against irresponsible owners.”

A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman said dog fouling could be reported on the local authority’s website, to its waste enforcement officers on 01639 686868 or by emailing environment@npt.gov.uk
