A 128-year-old tennis club has lodged plans to install floodlights at its premises to make year round play possible.
Walmer Tennis Club, which is between Chesham Primary School and Clarence Park Lido at the junction of Talbot Grove and Mosley Avenue, plan to install six floodlight columns to illuminate courts.
The tennis club said in its application: “We are a private members tennis club with four tarmac tennis courts.

“We are looking to install floodlights on two of the four courts.”
Plans lodged this week with Bury Council by the private members club, which was formed in 1893, contain documents outlining the use of TennisPro LED lighting fixtures.
The technology claims to ‘produce optimum lighting levels while reducing light spillage and glare’.
The application also includes guidance notes for the reduction of obtrusive light from the firm Sport Lighting UK.
The guidance states: “It cannot be stressed sufficiently that employing a competent lighting designer with proven experience in the lighting application being considered will provide a suitable lighting installation where all obtrusive lighting aspects are mitigated.”
If the plans were passed half-a-dozen, six foot tall lighting columns would be installed to which the floodlight fixtures would be attached.
The club currently has mens, ladies, mixed and junior teams and is a partner of the Lawn Tennis Association and provides one-to-one coaching with tennis professionals.
When re-opening after pandemic restrictions on open air sport were lifted in late March the club stressed its welcoming and inclusive nature.
At the time, a club spokesman, said: “Whether you’re a beginner looking for a fun new hobby to start, dusting off your old tennis rackets, or a club level player, all are welcome at Walmer from ages three to 103.”
