All You Really Need To Know About Tennessee (29-5)

(SEC), NCAA NET Rank: 5. South 2-seed

Tied with Kentucky for second in the SEC regular season, the Vols got to the conference tournament title game and got rolled by Auburn – forget about that. It was a bad day, they’re a whole lot better than that, and now they need to show the steadiness and pop to roll to at least the Elite Eight. There’s too much experience, too much size, and too much talent not to be a serious threat.

They don’t shoot threes, mainly because they don’t have to. They’re amazing on the inside and strong in transition, moving the ball around well and using their defense to trigger points. Great on the boards, strong on the free throw line, and generally mistake-free. As long as they don’t need to hit from the outside, they’re fine.

All You Really Need To Know About Colgate (24-10)

(Patriot), NCAA NET Rank: 132. South 15-seed

The Raiders tied for the Patriot League regular season title, and got in by dominating the conference tournament with ease. On an 11-game winning streak, they haven’t lost since early February thanks to 6-10 Rapolas Ivanuaskas and a good enough team on the glass to make up for a slew of concerns.

They give the ball away too easily, they’re not great on the free-throw line, and the don’t get fouled nearly enough considering their inside presence. But they’ll eat up rebounds, they’ll hit the three, and they’re great at moving the ball around and making the extra pass.

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Raiders get going from three early on? They’ll have to start bombing and keep shooting from outside, but they’ll also give the ball away way too often for easy points for the Vols. The SEC Tournament championship loss to Auburn will wake up what will be a powerhouse throughout the next few weeks.
