The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with former XFL guard, Avery Gennesy, who is the second offensive lineman the team has signed from outside the organization this offseason.
Here are three things to know about the Texas A&M product.
UDFA and brief NFL stint
Gennesy was an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M who was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos but never played a regular season snap in the NFL with any of those teams.
Played in AAF and XFL
After a failed stint in the NFL, Gennesy took his talents to the AAF first in 2019, and then to the XFL in 2020 after the latter went under. Unfortunately, because of the coronavirus outbreak, the XFL season was cancelled early, leading to Gennesy becoming a free agent.
Gennesy was one of the first offensive linemen to come off the board in the XFL draft, and he went on to be the starting right guard for the Houston Roughnecks, a team that sported the league’s best player, quarterback P.J. Walker.
According to Pro Football Focus, Gennesy allowed just one QB pressure in 222 pass-blocking snaps with the Roughnecks.
Versatility
While Gennesy most recently played right guard for the Rougnecks, he has also spent time at both tackle spots during his collegiate and professional football careers.
In his junior year with the Aggies, Gennesy started all 13 games at left tackle. When he was playing in the AAF in 2019, Gennesy played games at right tackle.
Despite his experience at both tackle spots, Gennesy’s 6-foot-3, 318-pound frame lends more to him being a guard than a tackle.
