Tennessee Titans must bolster interior offensive line in 2019

The Tennessee Titans enter the 2019 NFL season with a few small holes to patch up on both sides of the ball.

But perhaps the most important unit on the list is the interior offensive line. Not only has this been a lingering problem for the Titans for some time now, but it’s more important than ever now that quarterback Marcus Mariota enters a pivotal year.

The signal-caller can run, but he’ll need more protection than what he’s received in order to stay healthy and help a rising offense break through to the next level in 2019.

It’s not just Mariota who would be helped by a stronger o-line, either. Having competent talent on the interior would allow the Titans to further upgrade a strong ground game, and continue to open up the overall passing game as well.

Fortunately for the team, the Titans have both the mid-March free agency period and the 2019 NFL Draft to tackle the issue before it has a chance to impact the next season.

Potential free agent candidates include former Rams guard Rodger Saffold, Eric Kush, Ryan Kalil and Ramon Foster.

The Titans could also look to the draft class, where players like Ohio State’s Michael Jordan and Boston College’s Chris Lindstrom provide options beyond the first round.

Regardless of how the Titans choose to rearrange the interior of the offensive line, they owe it to Mariota to give him a fair shot at proving himself as a franchise quarterback moving forward.
