Tennessee Titans’ Malcolm Butler talks staying in football shape during quarantine

Tennessee Titans cornerback Malcolm Butler is ready to get back on the field, just like so many other athletes across the country.

Dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic has come with no shortage of challenges, including staying in football shape.

While players have found makeshift ways to try to recreate what they would otherwise do in-person in offseason preparation, Butler seems to believe that there’s no true substitute.

“You never can get in football shape unless you’re really playing football,” Butler said in an interview with Titans team reporter Amie Wells. “So I’m just doing all the normal things I usually do. Just running, lifting weights, watching a little film if I can. Just staying on top of it. It’s not only a physical game, it’s a mental game.”

To keep busy, Butler has been playing some Madden and is changing up his workout routines — just doing a lot of the same that everyone else is doing, according to the cornerback.

It will be interesting to see what Butler is able to accomplish this season within a unit of Titans cornerbacks that recently saw the departure of Logan Ryan and the addition of rookie-to-be Kristian Fulton, who was taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
