Tennessee Titans look to upset Kansas City Chiefs and reach first Super Bowl since 1999

The Tennessee Titans will head to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday in an attempt to upset the Kansas City Chiefs and keep their miraculous Super Bowl run alive.

At the start of the playoffs this is a match up that no one would have predicted.

The Titans finished regular season campaign as the sixth seed which gave them the hardest playoff schedule in the AFC.

In the wild card round they traveled to New England and beat the current Super Bowl champions before taking down the red hot Ravens in Baltimore.

Now, with one more opponent standing in their way, Mike Vrabel is hoping to coach his team to their second ever Super Bowl.

The keys to doing so will be to get the run game established early and take the ball away from Kansas City’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Titans Running back Derrick Henry has been a force to be reckoned with this season, especially in the playoffs. He carried the ball a total of 64 times and run for almost 400 yards over the last two games.

Henry’s power and size makes him tough to bring down so the Chiefs’ run defence will need to be on top form if they want to control him.

But it is not just the rushing attack that has been a big factor to the Titans’ playoff success.

Their defence has taken the ball away from their opponents a total of five times during the 2019 playoffs and successfully shut down future hall of famer Tom Brady and this year’s MVP frontrunner Lamar Jackson.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs snuck into the second seed in the final week of the regular season after the Miami Dolphins pulled off an upset victory over the New England Patriots.

In the divisional round of the playoffs Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes flexed his MVP muscles and completed the biggest comeback in the team's history. They beat the Houston Texans 51-31 after trailing 24-0 at the start of the second quarter.

With him at the helm, anything is possible. The Chiefs’ quarterback had the tenth most passing yards in the league this season despite missing two games due to injury.

He has the ability to get the ball to his opponents from just about any angle and has lightning quick wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman on his side.

As for Kansas City’s defence, despite a slow start they have made vast improvements to become one of the better units in the league.

On Sunday evening, both teams will be fighting for the AFC’s Lamar Hunt trophy, named after the founder of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Either side has the ability to blow this game wide open so it is not one to be missed.
