Tennessee Titans’ Isaiah Wilson shares the meaning behind his nickname

The Tennessee Titans’ choice to select former Georgia offensive lineman Isaiah Wilson in the first round was a bit baffling initially to those who felt cornerback was a bigger need.

But time would show that general manager Jon Robinson had indeed played his cards right after selecting former LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton — who many expected to be taken in the first round — in the second round.

But the move itself isn’t the only thing curious surrounding Wilson. His nickname of “Panda” practically begs for an explanation.

Wilson provided just that when he chatted with the Titans’ very own Mike Keith last week.

Wilson said a running back he trained with gave him the nickname.

“He walked over, and he was like, ‘you’re just a big panda.’ It stuck. Everyone kind of went with it.”

Here’s a look at the full story behind it all, and some other Titans-related questions the rookie-to-be answered for Keith.

Wilson has quite the void to fill as he heads into his rookie season, presumably taking the spot of former right tackle Jack Conklin — that is, if he can beat Dennis Kelly out for the starting job in training camp.

Conklin was on the upswing last season after some shaky performances as he attempted to bounce back from injury, and ultimately departed earlier in the offseason to join the Cleveland Browns.
