The Tennessee Titans have one of the best ground games in the NFL — and it’s not exactly a secret.
Star running back Derrick Henry finished out the 2019 season with the league’s rushing title (1,540 yards) and all but carried the offense through the postseason.
The Titans placed a franchise tag on him earlier in the offseason, and he enters the year expected to pick up right where he left off at.
But the Titans are also taking the steps they need to in order to build behind him.
Tennessee used their third-round pick to select former Appalachian State running back Darrynton Evans, a versatile prospect who brings a lot of intrigue with his ability to create explosive plays, whether he’s running, catching passes out of the backfield or returning.
Evans has also shown he’s better at the whole concept of ball security than most, fumbling just once on 482 carries over the course of his college career, according to Pro Football Focus.
“I think just his versatility (is his strongest trait),” said Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield, who recruited and coached Evans at Appalachian State. “His ability to catch the football out of the backfield, then also the fact when you’re running the zone play… he is really, really patient.”
It will be interesting to see how Evans ultimately pans out for the Titans’ long-term future, but there’s no questioning that he prepares to make his debut with a lot of promise surrounding him.
