Tennessee State University shooting: One person killed and two wounded in attack on campus in Nashville

One person has been killed and two more victims have been injured in a shooting on a university campus in the US.

The fatally wounded person had been in a critical condition immediately after the attack at the Tennessee State University in Nashville and died of their injuries, local media reported.

The shootings appeared to have stemmed from a dispute over a dice game in an outdoor courtyard, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said.

Police did not confirm whether those involved were students and it was unclear if a suspect was in custody.

Emergency services received a call reporting the shooting shortly before 11pm local time (4am BST), causing the campus to be locked down.

Three people were also shot and wounded during a large house party near the Tennessee State University campus earlier this month.

The incidents come amid a string of gun attacks targeting students across the US this month, including in shootings on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and adjacent to Texas Southern University in Houston.

A heavily-armed gunman killed nine people at a community college in Oregon on 1 October, ranking it among the deadliest of dozens of mass shootings in America over the past two years.
