Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) admitted and apologized on Thursday for wearing a Confederate uniform at an "Old South" party as a student at Alabama's Auburn University, which was published in the Kappa Alpha section of his 1980 college yearbook, reports the Tennessean.
"I never intentionally acted in an insensitive way, but with the benefit of hindsight, I can see that participating in that was insensitive and I’ve come to regret it."
Lee told the publication in a statement.
The backdrop: The Tennessean reports that Lee’s office initially said it had no knowledge of the Confederate garb photo. This comes weeks after Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring came under fire after revelations that they both wore blackface during college. Both Democrats, Northam and Herring, have rejected calls to resign.
