Tennent's-loving Scots lad turning Christmas tree into lager decorations goes viral on TikTok

A Scots lad who recycles his old Christmas tree and makes Tennent's themed decorations for the next year has gone viral on TikTok.

Scott, who is known online by his alias 'Bottletester', has gained a growing fanbase on the social media app after uploading videos of himself get creative with his old tree.

Based in Edinburgh, he started creating wooden themed decorations made from his Christmas tree four years ago.

This year he delighted his lager loving pals by choosing a Tennent's inspired theme and shared the creative process with social media users.

His quirky videos have been viewed over one million times and Scott says he's been blown away by the response.

'Bottletester' told the Record: "At the end of Christmas I take my tree and cut off all the branches.

"I seal the ends of it with wax and let it dry slowly until the next year. That is the log I use to make decorations.

"Every year I ask people on social media for theme suggestions. I've done South Park, dinosaurs, Scotland flags but Tennent's was my idea this time around."

His unique recycling techniques have proven to be a big hit on social media - but it took Scott years to perfect his method.

"The branches are dried out for almost a year so there is no quick method. Once they are ready, the log needs chopped and sanded. Then I just use a Google image of the theme I want and hand cut around the shape.

"The log has to be sealed at the end to seal the moisture in to some degree.

"If you just take a log out and leave it all year, it will dry - but it will crack. So I seal the ends with candle wax now.

"It's taken me a few years to figure out the best way to do that.

"I'll check back in after nine months or so and it will be dried out and ready to make decorations."

In his latest video, 'Bottletester' showed his 145,000 fans how he creates the Tennent's themed decorations.

Filming his carving technique with a can of the Scottish lager by his side, he wrote: "For those that don't know, Tennent's is like the champagne of Scotland."

Scott's videos have become so popular he even appeared on US television show 'Right This Minute' earlier this month - a programme which showcases trending social media clips.

Speaking of his new found fame, he said: "It's been cool, I didn't really expect it to be honest.

"I'm still making decorations this year. I ran out of Christmas tree but I have another branch from a tree in my garden that I have been using to make more.

"Usually I just give them away to family and friends but this year I've been selling them.

"I sent one to Tennent's in the post too.

"Everyone loves Tennent's... except beer snobs."
