Tenet: Christopher Nolan film is 'related' to Inception, confirms star John David Washington

Tenet star John David Washington has confirmed that the new Christopher Nolan movie is at least somewhat connected to Inception.

Nolan’s new film, which also stars Robert Pattinson and Michael Caine, has long been at the centre of rumours that it’s a secret sequel to Nolan’s 2010 blockbuster. Tenet, like Inception, appears to revolve around the bending of time.

Washington neither confirmed nor denied the speculation in a new interview with Esquire, but did tease a connection between the movies.

“I’d say [Tenet] is an in-law to Inception,” Washington said. “They’re related by marriage. They get together for Thanksgivings, family barbecues, like that kind of thing. Other than that, one lives in Europe, the other one lives in Compton.”

While Washington may have been making a joke, the hint has taken off among fans eager for more information about the top-secret movie.

Separately in the Washington profile, Pattinson revealed that he too had difficulty understanding the film.

“It’s an incredibly complicated movie, like all of Chris’s movies,” he explained. “I mean, you have to watch them when they’re completely finished and edited three or four times to understand what the true meaning is.

“When you’re doing them, I mean, there were months at a time where I’m like, ‘Am I… I actually, honestly, have no idea if I’m even vaguely understanding what’s happening’.”

Tenet is still currently scheduled for release on 17 July, despite the fact that strict lockdown guidelines may still be in place.
