Tenacious D are using their comedy-rock fame for good. The duo, made up of comedian and actor Jack Black and actor/singer-songwriter Kyle Gass, are auctioning their band memorabilia and props in aid of the survivors and victims’ families affected by November’s terrorist attacks in Paris.
The band are running an online auction until 5 January 2016, with proceeds until 31 December 2015 going towards the Sweet Stuff Foundation: a charity designed to assist musicians and affiliated with Eagles of Death Metal member Josh Homme.
“We’re Tenacious D, and we’re doing a major auction of all of our most prized possessions to raise funds for Sweet Stuff,” Black said, in a short video posted to the band’s Facebook page on Tuesday.
The band are sending items from matching fur coats and colourful wizard-inspired stage costumes to signed gig posters under the hammer. At the time of writing, bids ranged from $175 (£117) – for a blue and black robe worn by Gass – to $550 (£370) for an “evil alien squid” stage prop.
Sweet Stuff was founded in 2013, to raise funds for career musicians and record engineers impacted by the financial costs of illness or living with a disability.
