Woman rushed to hospital with head injury after being hit by a tram in Ashton

A woman in her 20s suffered a head injury after she was hit by a tram in Ashton.

The pedestrian was 'conscious and breathing' following the crash, an ambulance service spokeswoman said.

Paramedics rushed to Ashton West tram stop at around 3pm on Tuesday.

The woman was then taken to Salford Royal Hospital with a head injury.

Lord Sheldon Way has been taped off by police following the collision.

All trams between Ashton-Under-Lyne and Ashton Moss have been diverted elsewhere.

Anyone with a ticket can use it on the 216 and 217 bus.

A Metrolink spokesman said: "We’ve been advised that there has been a collision involving a tram and pedestrian near to the Ashton West stop.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene and dealing with the incident."

A spokeswoman for NWAS said: "We were called at 3.05pm. A woman is conscious and breathing.

"She suffered a head injury. She suffered no other injuries.

"We have informed the hospital she was coming."

GMP Tameside North also posted about the incident on Facebook.

The post, put up at 4.30pm, said: "We are currently dealing with an incident on Lord Sheldon Way.

"All trams are currently not running into and out of Ashton.

"Lord Sheldon Way is also currently close to vehicle traffic."
