Ten-year-old Edinburgh girl taken to hospital following crash on busy road

Edinburgh police have confirmed that a 10-year-old girl has had to be taken to hospital to be treated for injuries after being involved in a collision with a vehicle.

The incident is understood to have taken place at around 6:10pm on Monday 23 with several police cars responding at the scene.

The crash happened on the busy Pennywell Road in the North Edinburgh community of Pilton.

Officers say that the young girl was transported to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People to be checked over.

One motorist that was passing the site as emergency services responded said that they spotted two buses at a standstill and traffic queueing back as what looked like a young girl was lying on the floor.

They said: “There was an accident down at Pennywell Road where I saw a young lass lying on the ground and a couple buses stopped as well as six police in attendance.

“The traffic was at a standstill.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.10pm on Monday, 23 January, we were made aware of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Pennywell Road, Edinburgh.

“The pedestrian, a 10-year-old girl, was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People to be checked over.”
