Ten tonnes of waste dangerously dumped on Midlothian road causing 'high risk of accident'

A local man had to remove ten tonnes of waste that was dangerously dumped on a Midlothian road.

The resident was stunned to find huge chunks of stone blocking a road in Penicuik over the weekend.

With thick fog forecast and no lights on the road, he took it upon himself to remove the fly-tipped waste amid fears of a serious accident.

He said: "Ten tonnes of waste dumped on the mount Lothian to Roslin fishery road today around 3pm looks likes some one has had there drive lifted.

"Not sure if it’s the company on the leaflet or not police have been informed.

"I’ve removed it as thick fog due tonight and high risk of accident please let me know if you have any info as I’d love to return it to its rightful owner."

Midlothian Council urges residents to report incidents of fly-tipping so they can investigate and try identify those responsible.

They warn: "Dumping waste is a serious offence, and anyone caught can be prosecuted."

Edinburgh Live previously reported how one raging Fife farmer vowed to tip a lorry load of "dung" in a fly tipper's shop after his land was targeted for a second time.

Steve Mitchell, owner of The Buffalo Farm near Kirkcaldy, threatened: "I'm not going to bother with the police, I'm not going to bother with the council, I'm bringing a load of buffalo dung and I'm tipping it in your shop."
