Frankel may well win the 2,000 Guineas a week on Saturday but it will be some training feat from Henry Cecil if he can keep his talented, temperamental horse at the top of his game until the very end of the season. Even if he can, the rewards for punters will surely be slender. By contrast, it should hopefully pay to keep these 10 horses in mind throughout the rest of the 2011 Flat campaign.
Blu Constellation trained by Vittorio Caruso
Three-year-old colt
Unbeaten champion two-year-old in Italy who effortlessly took a Group Two in France on his final start last season. Entered in Ascot's Golden Jubilee and could yet be anything, even allowing for doubts over whether he will train on.
Bourne trained by Luca Cumani
Five-year-old gelding
Late-developing type who got going too late on his reappearance at Newbury on Saturday. Well worth another try at a mile and a half and could yet emerge as the stable's main hope for the Ebor Handicap in August.
Carlton House trained by Sir Michael Stoute
Three-year-old colt
Reportedly held up by a foot infection but back in strong work now and on course to reappear in the Dante, a favoured pre-Derby stopping point for the trainer. The Queen's best chance of owning a Classic winner for many years.
Gallagher trained by David Nicholls
Five-year-old gelding
Has anyone ever picked an Ayr Gold Cup winner in April? This one ticks all the right boxes, with a rating 20lb lower than at his peak. He's classy and just the type to appreciate the switch of stables.
Mount Athos trained by David Wachman
Four-year-old gelding
Looked well bought, even at 190,000 guineas, when dotting up in a Dundalk handicap on his debut for his new yard last week. The Chester Cup is the next aim for his locally based owner.
Rhythm Stick trained by John Berry
Four-year-old gelding
Having scored a hat-trick on the all-weather in the depths of winter, he has been rested since to wait for softer conditions in the autumn. Further improvement is expected. His trainer remains bafflingly under-used despite a fine record with limited raw material.
Snow Fairy trained by Ed Dunlop
Four-year-old filly
The myopic British media may have underplayed the merit of her two wins in the far east at the end of last year and she is said to be on her way back from a subsequent injury. She won't be wrapped in cotton wool this year and her profile points to further improvement.
So You Think trained by Aidan O'Brien
Five-year-old colt
A multiple Group One winner in Australia, he is expected to make his debut for O'Brien in a Coolmore-sponsored contest at the Curragh in a fortnight. He has settled in well and the stable has an impressive record with previous recruits from the southern hemisphere. The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is the long-term aim.
Vita Nova trained by Henry Cecil
Four-year-old filly
Winner of two from two last season, impressing when surviving trouble in running to outgallop rivals in a Salisbury handicap. She has a long way to go before reaching the top, but a Group Two entry at York next month is encouraging.
World Domination trained by Henry Cecil
Three-year-old colt
Was already backed for the Derby before making a winning debut at Newbury last weekend. He appeared in need of the experience beforehand but won with plenty in hand and has the looks to match his considerable potential. Exciting.
