Ten South Dublin schools to open up new places for children with special needs

Schoolkids with special needs in South Dublin have been given a boost today with more school places being allocated to them.

Ten schools across the Southside will open their classrooms to kids with special needs after the area was highlighted for its lack of spots.

Star of the Sea BNS in Sandymount, Scoil Mhuire Ógh/Loreto Senior Primary School and Scoil Mhuire Ógh 2/Loreto Junior Primary School, both in Crumlin and St Joseph’s Boys’ School in Clondalkin are among the schools that will welcome the new pupils, according to the Irish Independent.

Around 30-35 places will be opened up for kids that currently have no school place.

The decision comes after 25 schools on the Southside were issued at least two formal notices from Education Minster Norma Foley to open up their classrooms.

New legislation gives the Minster the power to make schools open up places for children with special needs.

The power was previously used on schools in west Dublin last year.
