Ten most common dating 'icks' - from putting on a baby voice to being obsessed with star signs

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, people have revealed the ten most common traits that give them the ‘ick’ when they start dating someone new.

The 'ick' is commonly described as a feeling of immediate disgust or an instant turn-off when you witness a certain behaviour by a date.

The reasons for this feeling can range from the understandable to the more bizarre but once people have experienced the ‘ick’, it’s usually impossible to regain physical attraction.

The results of a survey of over 2,000 adults by Betfair Casino has revealed the ten biggest dating ‘icks’, with arrogance being crowned as the trait that gives the public the ultimate 'ick' with 33% listing that as their biggest turn-off.

Other 'icks' that are guaranteed to put your date off are being rude to hospitality staff, with 30% of respondents listing this one, with having dirty fingernails, or being obsessed with star signs also coming in the top ten.

One surprising phenomenon that made the list was putting on a 'sexy' baby voice, which is often described as a high-pitched speech pattern put on by some women, such as the voice sometimes used by Paris Hilton.

Here are the top 10 biggest 'icks' when it comes to dating:

  1. Being too arrogant

  2. Being rude to hospitality staff

  3. Dirty fingernails

  4. A noisy eater

  5. Crude jokes

  6. Putting on a baby voice

  7. Being obsessed with the way they look

  8. Bad dress sense

  9. Bad grammar

  10. Being obsessed with star signs
