Ten Manchester United legends announced for Vincent Kompany's Man City testimonial

Vincent Kompany's testimonial may have a bit more derby spice to it than initially thought after 10 Manchester United legends were confirmed for the special game.

The game will celebrate Kompany's 11 glorious years at Man City, which came to an end this summer after he left Manchester to return to boyhood club Anderlecht as player manager.

Taking place on Wednesday September 11 during the upcoming international break, the match will see a City legends team, managed by Pep Guardiola, take on a Premier League All-stars XI.

Emile Heskey and Rafael van der Vaart had already been confirmed to be playing for the All-stars, and they will be joined by a host of United legends.

Edwin van der Sar, Gary and Phil Neville, John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie will all take part in the match at the Etihad.

They will also be joined by Monaco's Cesc Fabregas in a team which will be managed by Belgium coach Roberto Martinez.

They will be up against plenty of City fan favourites, all of who have played with Kompany during his time at the club.

Joe Hart, Shay Given, Gael Clichy, Aleks Kolarov, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Pablo Zabaleta, Dedryk Boyata, Wayne Bridge, Richard Dunne, Nigel de Jong, Samir Nasri, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Craig Bellamy are all involved.

Current City stars David Silva and Sergio Aguero will have a small role in the match and maverick Mario Balotelli will also return to the Etihad.

Some of Kompany's greatest moments in a City shirt came against United, with his winner in the derby in 2012 to give the Blues the advantage in the title race particularly standing out. So who better to play against in his final ever game for City?

The match isn't just a celebration as all proceeds raised will be donated to Tackle4MCR, the charity which was set up by Kompany and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham to combat rough sleeping and homelessness in the city.
