Ten-man Notts County battle to victory against FC Halifax Town

Ten-man Notts County showed incredible character to secure a 1-0 win over Halifax Town as  they overcame Michael Doyle’s red card to seal  a deserved victory at Meadow Lane.

Doyle was shown a straight red card for a foul on Charlie Cooper early in the second half, but a goal from Kyle Wootton ensured all three points.

Notts certainly warranted their victory having created the best chances of an absorbing 90 minutes with Ben Turner going close with a header in the opening stages.

Jim O’Brien then blasted over while Cameron King warmed the palms of Sam Slocombe in what was a rare attack from the visitors.

A fabulous save from Sam Johnson then prevented Wes Thomas from scoring as the game remained goalless at the break.

The game then seemed to swing in Halifax’s favour when Doyle won a tackle with Cooper but was sent off for the follow-through.

But Notts took the lead when a fine pass from Jim O’Brien found Thomas whose shot was saved by Johnson but Wootton seized the rebound before firing beyond Johnson.

Thomas wasted a great chance to extend the lead following an excellent move while Tobi Sho-Silva sent a header over the bar for Halifax.

An injury to key defender Turner gave Notts a further set-back, but they confidently saw out the game to secure an impressive win.
