Ten coronavirus deaths in Bristol region in one day as cases continue to soar

A further ten people have died after contracting coronavirus in the Bristol region today (November 17).

The Government's latest figures show six deaths were confirmed in our city, two in Bath and North East Somerset, and two in North Somerset.

Over the past week, 46 deaths have been reported in Bristol and its neighbouring districts - one of the highest figures since the pandemic first hit.

Daily cases have also increased by 431 across the Bristol region.

Our city reported the biggest jump, with 204 cases.

South Gloucestershire had the second-highest infections, with 110.

Across the South West, 120 Covid patients were admitted to hospital today. That brings the region overall total to 847.

UK-wide, 598 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded today, and 20,051 new cases.

Our nation is now the first European country to pass the tragic milestone of 50,000 Covid-19 deaths, with a total of 52, 147.

  • BANES: +55 (3,188)
  • Bristol: +204 (13,129)
  • North Somerset: +62 (3,336)
  • South Gloucestershire: +110 (5,160)

Bristol is one of the places most at-risk of entering the toughest local lockdown tier when England emerges from its second national lockdown.

More than 2,200 coronavirus infections were recorded in Bristol in the seven days up to November 11 and the city is now amongst the worst hit areas in the country, ranking 16 across 149 local authorities.
